Phrasal Verb with Ask

Trong bài viết này, chúng ta sẽ tìm hiểu các Phrasal Verb đi chung với động từ ASK (hỏi).

Phrasal Verbs là gì?

Đây là tên gọi cho những động từ đi chung với một (hoặc hơn) giới từ. Điều đáng nói là khi chúng đi với một số giới từ nhất định, nét nghĩa của chúng sẽ hoàn toàn thay đổi.

Ví dụ chúng ta có ASK với nét nghĩa là hỏi. Nhưng khi chúng ta dùng với FOR (ASK FOR IT), nó lại có nét nghĩa là “mày đáng bị vật”.

Chính vì sự “bất thường” với nét nghĩa như vậy nên cụm động từ được xem là một điểm ngữ pháp / từ vựng khá thú vị. Và cách duy nhất chúng ta “hiểu” nó là HỌC!

Phrasal Verb with Ask

Sau đây là những giới từ đi với ASK và mang cho nó một nét nghĩa mới. Thầy sử dụng từ điển Oxford Phrasal Verb và lựa chọn những từ thường được sử dụng nhất.

Ask after sb

• To ask for news about sb and how they are,…
  Hỏi thăm
  • Did she ask after me in her letter?
  • After 2 years apart, they asked after one another for a day.

Ask sb along

• To ask sb if they would like to go with you to an event or activity
  Rủ Rê
  • They are going out tonight. They’ve asked me along but I want to give them some space.
  • If you want some company, why don’t you ask your friends along?

Ask around

• To ask a number of different people in order to find out something.
  Tìm thông tin
  • I don’t know if there’s any work, but I’ll ask around for you.
  • Don’t worry. You’ll find your son. Just keep asking around.

Ask sb back

• To invite sb to come back to your house with you for a drink… when you are both out together
  Rủ về nhà chơi (phải là lúc đang ở ngoài nha)
  • While we are waiting in a restaurant, he asks me back for an indoor meal.
  • When we were single, we often ask each other back for a talk rather than staying out for too long.

Ask for sb

• To say that you want to see or speak to sb
  Muốn nói chuyện với ai đó
  • While you are out, there is someone wants to ask for you.
  • There is somebody at the door asking for Pete.

Ask for sth (or Ask sb for sth)

• To say you want sb to give you sth:
  Xin
  • My wife asks for a new car for her birthday.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it
• (informal) If sb is asking for trouble / asking for it, they are behaving in a way that is likely to cause sth bad to happen to them:
  Chơi … ngu
  • You’re asking for trouble walking home alone at night.
  • You asked for it! (mày đáng bị vậy)

Ask sb in / up

• To invite sb to come into the room or building that you are in, especially your home

  • Aren’t you going to ask me in? It’s cold here
  • She asks me up for a coffee.

Ask sb out

• To invite sb to go out with you, especially when you would like a romantic relationship:
  Hẹn hò
  • Would you like to ask me out?
  • If you don’t ask her out, I will.

Ask sb over / round / around

• To invite sb to come and visit you in your home
  Rủ về nhà chơi
  • She’s asked me round for dinner.
  • They never ask me around although they always say they’re my friends.
