Phrasal Verb Thông Dụng

Ờm… thầy gửi lời xin lỗi đến các bạn trước nhé. Thầy soạn cái này từ hồi đại học cơ mà giờ làm lại thì… lười. Cho nên nếu bạn thấy chỗ nào lỗi định dạng thì vui lòng… bỏ qua cho thầy, hi hi!

Add up/ˌæd/Hợp lý
Your story doesn’t add up. It doesn’t make any sense! I don’t believe it!!!

Back down /bæk/Lùi bước
You shouldn’t back down! You’re not wrong! He is! You should have backed down.

 

Break down/breɪk/ Tan vỡ (cảm xúc)
He just dumped her, so she broke down into tears. She cried a lot.

Bring [blah blah] up/^p/ Đề cập
You shouldn’t bring that up. It upsets mom   The interview is successful until he brings $ up.

Carry out/ˈkæri/Thực hiện
They carried out as planned and succeeded. The plan was carried out successfully.

 

Carry on Tiếp tục
She carries on doing homework.                    After hours doing housework, she carries on to
do homework.

 

Catch on Trở nên thông dụng
This new hairstyle is beginning to catch on.  “hư xe” is a caught on excuse.

 

Catch up with/wɪθ/Theo kịp
He can’t catch up with other students.          You ran so fast that I can’t catch up,

 

Come about Xảy ra
I know you love her. Why do you let it come about?

 

Come down to Chuyện quan trọng là
It all comes down to money.                           It all comes down to her. You can’t decide!

 

Come out Xuất hiện
I’m waiting for the new episodes “Game of Throne”, but they haven’t come out yet.

Something has come up; we can’t control it any longer! It must be a problem.

 

Come up with Nghĩ ra (kế hoạch, ý tưởng)
Don’t worry! Let me come up with a plan, and we’ll get ourselves out of here

 

Count on/kaʊnt/Trông cậy vào
You can count on me! I never let you down! I’ll take care of everything for you!

 

Do away with/əˈweɪ/Hủy bỏ/chấm dứt
Housing tax should be done away with!        He does away with the old man…

 

Drop off/drɒp/Ngủ gục
Some of my students drop off when I am teaching them. I feel sad about that…

We get on very well with each other.             I don’t get on well with my boss.

 

Get [something] over with Kết thúc một vấn đề
Let’s get it over with; do you love her or not? If not, break up. If so, love her!

 

Get up to Định làm gì (xấu)
I don’t like that smile; what are you getting up to (???

 

Give (somebody) away Làm lộ/phản bội
Everything is perfect, but your smile gave you away.

 

Give in Đầu hàng
I will not give in; even everyone says I should, I will not give in!

You should give it up! It’s pointless.

Put off Delay
He puts off his marriage again and again. She knows she doesn’t have a chance and give up.

Don’t put up with those who take you for granted!

Take off  Cởi ra

Take over Chiếm quyền
The old boss just retired, and he takes over her position.

 

Take up Mất thời gian
This job wasn’t easy. It took up a whole morning.

 

Track [someone] down/træk/Theo dấu
The hunters are very good. They can track down any animals!

 

Turn down/tɜːn/Từ chối
They offered me a very good job. But I don’t like the boss. So I turned it down.

 

Turn out (to V) Hóa ra là
She turns out to be a dude…It’s a shock!        He turns out to love her.

 

Wear off Giảm tác dụng
When you take medicine, you have to keep taking them, or the effect will wear off.

 

Work out Có kết quả
I don’t think we will work out. I think we should just break up now
