Alacrity IELTS Vocabulary

Hello there, another formal word for IELTS Vocabulary: Alacrity! But before anything else, I have a confession to make… Well, as you may notice from the clip, I…I tried another approach to make video. It seemed great, in my mind… But then when I realized it, it is not as what I expected, at all. So…sorry for the quality today. Perhaps I would try this approach once more. Or perhaps I’d better get back to the old one.

Enough of that, the word ALACRITY today is quite easy, but it is interesting to use, I think. ALACRITY is a FORMAL NOUN.

It is pronounced as

/əˈlækrəti/

The meaning,

as the Dictionary says: quickness and eagerness. Now, to use the word Alacrity, you need to know its collocation.

First and foremost, you need to know that Alacrity usually goes with the preposition WITH.

“WITH ALACRITY”

is used as an adverb, modified for the Verb (action). Considering these examples:

  • She accepted with alacrity.

  • No wonder that theism is abandoned with such alacrity by so many of these new philosophers.

  • They imitated the coolness and courage of their predecessors, going forward with the utmost alacrity and firmness.

  • Doing things with alacrity is not something all people can find and have a chance to have.

As you can see, you can also make it a better phrase by adding “SUCH” or “UTMOST” between WITH and ALACRITY.

Now, to use it in the IELTS test, I can only think of IELTS Speaking Part 1, especially when dealing with HOBBY questions. You can say you want to do something, and enjoy doing it, with (utmost) alacrity.
